Major Projects

Shawsett Training and Safety have been engaged in a variety of workplace safety training initiatives in Australia and overseas. The diverse range and nature of projects, and clients, is testament to the professionalism, expertise and reputation of Shawsett.

Volunteer Bush Fire Brigades (2014)

We have recently commenced an on-going program of training for a number of VBFB’s across the metropolitan area, providing a combination of Off Road 4WD (TLIC2025A) and Emergency Driving (PUAVEH001B) for over 150 volunteer fire fighters. The course incorporates the use of e-learning modules, which enable participants to be engaged in more detailed and meaningful practical exercises, including simulated emergency driving and recovery exercises, as well as night driving with emergency beacons and sirens, emergency braking and 4WD in various terrains.  Training will extend also to MR & HR vehicles in future weeks.

Monadelphous KT Pipelines (2014)

Shawsett have been engaged to design and deliver a fully customised driver development training system on a project basis for Monadelphous KT Pipelines.  The Monadelphous KT Pipelines Drive to Conditions course focusses on driver behaviour, attitude and risk assessment techniques to adapt to driving conditions.  The course also incorporates the relevant unit of competency, RIIVEH201B.

Rio Tinto (Rail) (2014)

Shawsett have been engaged to design and deliver a fully customised Drive to Conditions (Access Road) course for around 400 Rio Tinto employees and contractors. The course focusses on driver behaviour, attitude and risk assessment techniques to adapt to driving conditions, as well as improving driver skills, rather than simply following a specific unit of competency.

Independence Group (2014)

Conduct high level Safety Audit on exploration activities and processes based on Department of Mines and Petroleum Mineral Exploration High Impact Function (HIF) Audit Tool.

Project requirements:

  • establish audit plan and standards
  • conduct system-wide interviews and collect evidence
  • prepare and distribute draft report
  • finalise and distribute final audit report and recommendations

Oyu Tolgoi – Mongolia (2013 – 2014)

Shawsett have been engaged on a 12 month contract to provide 4WD driving and recovery training  to Company personnel and contractors.

Project requirements:

  • Training services for approximately 1,600 staff and contractors.
  • Development and delivery of fully customised and contextualised content.
  • Conduct risk assessment and provide recommendations on risk control measures.
  • Development and implementation of relevant policies and procedures.

Fugro TSM (2013 – 2014)

Conduct a review of Verification of Competency (VoC) and Training procedure for Safety Critical roles, to establish a usable and efficient system to meet all the relevant needs of FUGRO TSM clients’ safety requirements.

Project requirements:

  • Establish policy for competency assessment & training process
  • Review and apply industry training standards for each Safety Critical role
  • Map external competencies to FTSM operations
  • Identify system deficiencies and make recommedations for improvement

Department of Agriculture and Food (1999 – 2013)

Shawsett have provided fully customised Driver Awareness courses for DAFWA under the State Government’s CUA program. The initial implementation of this program resulted in savings of $596,000 in vehicle crashes and associated workers’ compensation within 4 years. In addition to the savings made, the Department was a finalist in 2001 Insurance Commission Road Safety Awards and winner of Australian Fleet Managers Association’s national fleet safety award in the same year.

Project requirements:

  • Initial training needs analysis and establishment of driver safety seminars
  • Delivered 1st round of training to 2,000 staff
  • Further evaluation and enhancement of driver safety seminars to produce cost positive driver safety program
  • Delivery of customised Quad Bike, First Aid, Trailer Towing and Area Warden training for Department staff

CBH Group (2013)

Develop and deliver Emergency Preparedness program development for grain receival points throughout Wheat Belt of WA.

Project requirements:

  • Risk assessment and Needs Analysis of Emergency Response in country Wheat Belt operations.
  • Establishment of training program and associated control measures.
  • Conduct risk assessment of access to underground pits on site.
  • Identification of associated risk control measures and recommendations.

Rio Tinto (2013)

Successful addition to scope of Units of Competency for delivery to Rio Tinto clients.

Project requirements:

  • Application of systematic process to add units to scope.
  • Audit by Rio Tinto Superintendent Training and Subject Matter Expert.
  • Demonstration of Shawsett Systems to show compliance with audit criteria.

Barrick Gold (2009 – 2013)

Subject matter expert for Barrick Gold formal risk assessment of light vehicle operation at Kainantu Mine, Papua New Guinea, Saudi Arabia and Zambia.

Project requirements:

  • Provide comment and constructive analysis of Risk Categories for Light vehicle Operations
  • Conducted 3 day Group Risk Assessment to determine consequence and control measures for all light vehicle activities in mining and associated activities.
  • Establish policy and procedure for execution of 4 stage driving program mapped to risk categories to target control measures incorporating training, and identifying risk exposure not controlled by training program.Coordinate of delivery of training programs to site.
  • Completion of Risk Assessment of driving conditions on site
  • Establishment of control measures for risks through:
    • appropriate minimum standards for driving activities
    • vehicle selection criteria to reduce potential outcomes.

Newmont Gold (2012)

Completion of Traffic Management Audit on site at Boddington Gold Mine.

Project requirements:

  • Establishment of project requirements.
  • Audit of traffic flow and risk assessments for traffic control measures.
  • Produce analysis of traffic flow control processes, and associated risks, with documented improvement plans and associated improvement risk assessments.

Rio Tinto Exploration – India (2011)

Conduct light vehicle training and evaluation program and consult for HSEQ Medical Emergency Response Procedures.

Project requirements:

  • Conduct Risk Assessment for recovery of 4WD vehicles
  • Establish control measures for use in standard work procedure 4WD recovery procedures in field
  • Conduct audit of Rio Tinto HSEQ Business Resilience Program Medical Emergency Response Program for India Operations and report o findings and recommendations
