If you have recently moved to WA, please visit the Department of Planning and Infrastructure Website to ensure you are correctly licenced to drive a motor vehicle in WA.

Appeals Policy

Shawsett Policy for Complaints and Appeals

Introduction

Shawsett Training has developed a policy to deal with complaints from clients and participants that may arise in the delivery of training and assessment or any other business service.

Policy

The scope of this policy include complaints regarding matters that relate to teaching practices, discriminatory behaviour, sexual harassment, physical disabilities etc. With regard to complaints, in most cases, it is expected that the parties directly involved would resolve the issue. Accordingly, candidates are encouraged to take up such matters with the persons involved as soon as possible.

If this approach is unsuccessful, students or customers should consider lodging a formal complaint, in writing, to the relevant Manager.

Shawsett Training – Training Appeals Policy

Introduction

Shawsett Training has an Appeals Policy to deal with complaints regarding assessment outcomes. This policy is to ensure that complaints regarding assessment outcomes are resolved in a fair and equitable manner.

The scope of the Appeals Policy could include appeals where candidates are dissatisfied with decisions regarding:

  • Final assessment awarded.
  • Result of a training program assessment or assignment.
  • Any other decision relating to a candidate’s progress.

If a participant has a complaint regarding their assessment, a Notice of Appeal must:

  • Be given in writing to the Director of Shawsett Training.
  • Clearly identify the result or decision appealed against.
  • Set out in detail the specific grounds on which the appeal is being sought.
  • Be made within 10 working days from the day on which the candidate is notified of the result.

The decision of any appeal will be based on the learner being able to demonstrate competence.

Child Protection Policy

Shawsett Training and Safety does not generallydeliver training to persons under 18 years of age. We acknowledge however that we have a responsibility to the children who come into contact with our staff and the families of those children to ensure that children are protected from any type of abuse. It is certainly the case that training staff may come into contact with children during the delivery of training and assessment services. Shawsett Training and Safety staff, students and other representatives have a legal, moral and ethical responsibility to protect these children and take actions where they believe there is a requirement to do so.

Privacy Policy

Privacy and Personal Information Procedures

In the course of its business Shawsett Training and Safety may collect information from Learners or potential Learners, either electronically or in hard copy format, including information that personally identifies individual users. We may also record various communications that Learners or potential Learners have with us. In collecting personal information we will comply with the national privacy principles set out in the Privacy Act 1988.

Collection and use of personal information

Shawsett Training and Safety will only collect personal information by fair and lawful means which is necessary for the functions of the RTO and is committed to ensuring the confidentiality and security of theity of the information provided to us.

The personal information supplied by individuals to Shawsett Training and Safety will only be used tocomplete program administration, gather necessary academic information and to maintain proper academic records. If an individual chooses not to give Shawsett Training and Safety certain information then we may be unable to enrol the individual in a program or supply them with appropriate information.

Disclosure of personal information

Personal information about Learners (including international students) studying with Shawsett Training and Safety may be shared with the Australian and West Australian Governments and designated authorities,

including the Training Accreditation Council and the National regulator for collation of National training Records. This information includes personal and contact details, program enrolment details and changes.

Any person or organisation to whom personal information is disclosed as described in this procedure will be required to not use or disclose the information for a purpose other than the purpose for which the information was supplied to them.

Shawsett Training and Safety will not disclose an individual’s personal information to another person or organisation unless:

  1. the individual concerned is reasonably likely to have been aware, or made aware that information of that kind is usually passed to that person or organisation; i.e. an employer that has arranged the training,
  2. the individual concerned has given written consent to the disclosure;
  3. Shawsett Training and Safety believes on reasonable grounds that the disclosure is necessary to prevent or lessen a serious and imminent threat to the life or health of the individual concerned or of another person;
  4. the disclosure is required or authorised by or under law.

Security of personal information

Shawsett Training and Safety will take all reasonable steps to ensure that any personal information collected is relevant to the purpose for which is was collected, is up to date and complete.

Shawsett Training and Safety will store securely all records containing personal information and take all reasonable security measures to protect, personal information collected by us from unauthorised access, misuse or disclosure.

Right to access and correct records

Individuals have the right to access or obtain a copy of the personal information that the Shawsett Training and Safety holds about them. Requests to access or obtain a copy of personal information must be made in writing. There is no charge for an individual to access personal information that Shawsett Training and Safety holds about them. 

If an individual considers their personal information to be incorrect, incomplete, out of date or misleading, they can request that the information be amended. Where a record is found to be inaccurate, a correction will be made. Where an individual requests that a record be amended because it is inaccurate but the record is found to be accurate, the details of the request for amendment will be noted on the record.
