Driver Development & Training

Your business cannot afford to be operating without the correct driver training because so much is riding on it. According to the Insurance Commission of WA, the crash-related costs incurred in WA in 2013 were over $457 million. Not only is there the personal injury to an employee, the average amount of work days lost per car crash is 119 (Worksafe WA Road Safety).

A vehicle used for employment, is a workplace, and as such businesses have a legislated duty of care to the employees with regards to vehicles as a workplace and have an interest in ensuring that employees are not involved in driving incidents that will impact on their productivity. Vehicle features and systems are constantly changing and so it is vital that training is regularly reviewed and updated to ensure safe and effective operationof vehicles.

At Shawsett Training & Safety we have, adopted a completely unique approach to driver training (and, in fact, safety training in general). Rather than blindly focussing on a unit of competency to improve driver safety outcomes we have developed a range of training solutions from simple seminars and on-line tutorials which form part of a companies Chain of Responsibility obligations, all the way through to a fully customised, behaviour based driver safety programme.

What has proven to be ineffective, is a one size fits all approach to driver training. What does work, however, is a focus on influencing driver awareness, behaviour and capability to reduce driver risk. Our primary focus has always been to provide particpants with knowledge and understanding to ensure they are able to apply the skills in a variety of contexts, whilst ensuring that they display the skills that are required to achieve the competency.

Furthermore, we provide a variety of flexible delivery options, with our courses being conducted regularly, enabling immediate qualification and a quickly mobilised workforce.

Shawsett Training and Safety driver trainers are unique – we employ only trainers with applied indutry expertise in such as Police Crash Units, Paramedic Services and Military High Security which ensures a motivated, practical training experience that makes a difference. A number of our trainers have comes to us from our competitors on the basis of the quality of our training and the integrity of the company to ensure that we do not just put ticks in boxes.

Finally, rather than relying on gimmicks our 4WD training courses are conducted in the most realistic and accessible 4WD conditions in Perth, so you spend more time driving ON the course and less time driving TO the course (see Why don’t we use skid cars/pans to simulate real road conditions? and Why don’t we use closed circuits for Off Road 4WD training? for more information).
